Simple, secure and compliant config management for Linux and Solaris

News Flash - NetDirector 3.2.3 is out, it's GPL, and server manager is packaged up as a lightweight deb.  All it needs is you.  Check it out.

NetDirector is a Web-based Linux and Solaris systems administration platform that provides secure, easy-to-use, one-to-many management of popular UNIX services running on a wide variety of Linux and UNIX platforms.

With Release 3.0, we introduced our plugin architecture, allowing easier addition of new services and easier integration with other tools.  As example plugins, we released on SourceForge the following plugins (click on the plugin names to see a description)

  • Red Hat Network
  • LDAP
  • Kerberos (beta)
  • With our SSH plugin, you can manually configure all your other services runing on Linux/Solaris machines with the benefit of NetDirector's role-based permissions.

NetDirector is open and extensible so developers with Java expertise can add a module to manage anything running on their Linux/Solaris servers.  NetDirector is VM aware, meaning you can use it to manage the applications running on physical and virtual servers equally.

NetDirector Benefits

NetDirector Is Open Source and Modular for Easy Customization

Benefits for Enterprises:

We are sure most Sys Admins with several Linux and/or Solaris servers will find NetDirector useful out of the box.  But we are also sure that there will be other things you will want NetDirector to do:  maybe you want to integrate with apt-get, maybe you want to integrate with your monitoring solution, maybe you need a plugin to manage iptables, or a custom in-house app.  Maybe you want help porting NetDirector to HPUX, AIX or some other OS.  NetDirector plugins are easy to create by experienced Java developers.  If you don’t have this skill set in house, Emu Software is available to assist.

Enterprise Testimonial

"NetDirector saves me on average 10 hours a week. And, by autodiscovering the service configurations on my servers, NetDirector helped me fix several anomalies introduced by junior Admins before they impacted service."

Benefits for ISVs and Embedded Linux Vendors:

ISVs whose application(s) run on Linux/Solaris and makers of embedded Linux devices can leverage NetDirector to offer their customers a robust management system at significantly less cost and in much less time than if they developed such a system from scratch in house.  NetDirector is easily reskinned to reflect your branding and you can keep as much or as little of the existing service modules as you want.  Alternatively, you can simply write a NetDirector plugin to manage your application.  If you need help, the professionals at Emu Software are committed to helping all our customers get the most out of NetDirector.

C heck out this online Demo of NetDirector powering the

    SpikeSource/Intel SuiteTwo Administrative Console

NetDirector powers the system console for SuiteTwo, the integrated Enterprise 2.0 suite from Intel and SpikeSource.  "NetDirector helped reduce our time to market with SuiteTwo."  Menna Nagarajan, SuiteTwo Product Manager, SpikeSource.

Because NetDirector is free, with optional professional support contracts from Emu Software, whether you build the additions / customizations yourself or pay us to do it, you will save both time and money.

NetDirector Helps with Reg. Compliance

NetDirector's tight role-based permissions and embedded configuration management database dramatically ease regulatory compliance.

Even with all this power, thanks to its slick, comprehensive installer, NetDirector can be installed in minutes and set up in an hour or less, depending on the number of servers you are managing.  In the words of one of NetDirector's earliest users, the install and set-up was "surprisingly painless."

What else can NetDirector do beyond configuration management?
  • Troubleshooting/Logs - with the Log Browser, just pick the server and the day and view the logs
  • Built-in support for managing clustered servers
  • Disaster recovery with configuration cloning

NetDirector can be applied to other server functions, too. For example, you could adapt NetDirector to schedule and run shell scripts on servers under management. Or, you could develop a module to provide system backups using Amanda, or simply use NetDirector as  a way to front-end access to all servers, giving you the ability to tighten the points of authentication to servers and add an additional layer of security.

Emu Software's development team, the people behind the current NetDirector functionality, can also develop custom modules for you in a lot less time (weeks, not months) and for a lot less money than you might think.  Contact us if you'd like a quote.
